Chervontsy turns into paper

  • During the magic show, Woland sends chervontsy falling from the sky, but very soon when the people use the money, they find out that it's fake wine labels or paper.
  • Satire of the Soviet economy and paper money: because of inflation rates, chervontsy became essentially worthless and unreliable. A cab driver later asks for a “three-ruble notes” (page 200), which is the “solid” ruble.
